川沿いに建つ築古マンションの５階で手掛けた住戸改修プロジェクトです。内装を解体してあらわれた既存躯体を再解釈し、単なる間仕切り操作に終始しない空間分節や外部風景への接続を目指しました。眺めの良い部屋の中心にキッチンを置くと排水ルートのために床を30cm近く高くしなければなりませんでした。でもこの与件をポジティブに捉え思い切って部屋全体の床を舞台のように上げてみたところ、コンクリートの大きな梁が近づき壁のように部屋を仕切る存在に変化しました。また人の視点が高くなる分、見えなかった川の水面風景が眼下に広がり、座ると遠くの山々や空を望める変化が生まれました。プランは回遊式にした事でこどもがぐるぐる走り回って遊びます。そんなときでも厚い床が下階へ伝わる音を和らげます。この家では少々分厚い床をインストールすることで生活を包む様々なレベルの距離感を調整することができたのではないかと思います。

We undertook a renovation project for a dwelling unit on the fifth floor of an aging apartment building along a riverside. By stripping away the interior finishes and exposing the existing concrete frame, we sought to reinterpret its structure, aiming not merely for a manipulation of partitions but for a spatial articulation that would also engage with the external landscape.

Placing the kitchen at the center of the room with the best view required raising the floor by nearly 30 centimeters to secure the drainage route. Rather than treating this as a constraint, we embraced it positively: elevating the entire floor like a stage. This transformation brought the massive concrete beams closer, turning them into wall-like elements that subtly divide the space. At the same time, the raised eye level opened up new vistas — the river’s surface, previously hidden, spread out below, while sitting down revealed distant mountains and sky.

The plan was designed as a loop, allowing children to run around playfully in circles. Even then, the thick floor helps to soften the transmission of sound to the units below. By installing this somewhat exaggeratedly thickened floor, we were able to calibrate multiple layers of distance and connection that shape everyday life in this home.
